This past Friday we paid a visit to Souk Qaryat Al Beri, we don't go here often, normally if we just want a nice meal at The Meat Company will we venture across the bridge, however we had a task this day (more on that soon) so we came out for the morning.
Dressed in my most summery outfit possible I was ready to brave the outdoors and the 38+ degrees weather!
The souk is designed to look old and authentic but to be honest I think they have failed at this and instead it looks like it was just shoddily built. But, from sunglass stores to Starbucks, it has a bit of everything for everyone including the must have tourist tat.
Wandering through the souk we realised that it was only 11am and most of the shops wouldn't be opening until 3pm so it really did cut our visit short, however we still enjoyed the few shops that were open.
These two tall camels didn't come home this time but I wonder if they might on our next visit...
and I couldn't help but check out the collection of ottomans and pouffs on display!
After our short visit through the souk we ventured outside to take in some sunshine and admire the view without another soul in sight.
Looking over to The Ritz Carlton we decided we need to add that to the list of hotels to check out, it is called the Grand Canal and the entire hotel architecture is Venetian inspired, quite strange for the middle of the desert but I look forward to seeing it one day soon!
Taking shade under the palms for a few minutes we pretended that it was enjoyable, however after a longing glance at the empty beach we decided to call it a day and head back indoors. The humidity had crept back up and so all we could do is say "can't wait for winter" and hope that the next month or so passes quickly so we can once again enjoy these beautiful outdoor areas.
If you have been to the Souk Madinat in Dubai than make no mistake, the Souk Qaryat Al Beri is no where near as good as that. However, if you want a pleasant scene with nice views than this makes a nice change to a traditional shopping mall, especially on a Friday!
Thanks for stopping by.
