HEAVEN ON EARTH

29 April 2017

After a wonderful few days in Galle Fort it was time to move on to our next destination, a place with nothing to do but read books, ponder the world and disconnect completely.

But before that, we needed to reach our destination. You may remember in the last post the little tuktuk I fell in love with? Well, Warren organised it to take us on our next journey!

We bundled in and Eddie the driver was cool, calm and so proud of his beautiful tuktuk, it really made for the best journey.

Heading South from Galle, we trundled down the coastal road again, thoroughly enjoying our mode of transport.

Finally though after a few hot and windy hours we turned off from the main road and down a dirt track to arrive at our destination, Taru Villas Mawella.

After bidding farewell to Eddie we walked through the big wooden gate into our temporary home. Our bags disappeared and welcome drinks and cold towels were underway before we could even sit down.

As soon as we entered I knew it was something special, the staff greeted us with genuine delight and the bungalow opened up to the most gorgeous outdoor setting.

Beach front views welcome you and the pure charm of this place envelopes you so you feel like you have stepped back in time.
There are only four rooms at the bungalow, so it's quite an intimate affair. With beach views, a plunge pool and a couple of loungers I knew right away we would love it here!
Once you reach Taru Villas you are on your own schedule, the staff are discreet but attentive and thanks to the 24 hour chef you can order anything you want when you want, and it is all absolutely delicious.

All you need to do is grab a book and the biggest decision you will have to make is whether to go the pool or the beach...

Both are very good options!

We spent our time between the pool and the beach, the morning is the best time for the beach because afternoons become quite rough and wild. It is lovely though and perhaps the best part of all is that they are mostly completely deserted.

We spent only two nights at Taru Villas, but it felt like time had slowed right down.

With limited internet access and no phones it made us completely switch off, I think if there is such a thing as heaven on earth than we found it right here.

We felt sad leaving this little haven, the staff had welcomed us so fully we felt like we had come to a second home.

But alas, the last leg of our trip was beckoning, so we left with full hearts and big smiles ready to embrace our next adventure.
