BEING CHARMED BY ST. WOLFGANG

9 January 2017

On our last morning in Salzburg we woke up to a fresh, cold and beautifully sunny morning, a welcome change from the previous dreary day! Deciding to get one last Starbucks coffee (yes, it really was the best on offer) we wandered over the bridge to the old town and were treated to a completely different outlook of the city.

On the one side the sun hadn't reached the roof tops yet but on the other it was thawing out the town ever so brightly.

We couldn't resist but to stop for more photos, but we did resist from putting a lock on the bridge.

Having only one day left before hopping on the train back to Vienna we decided to go further afield and take the bus to St Gilgen. Located on Lake Wolfgansee, you can then take a boat to a picture perfect chocolate box town called St Wolfgang.

The boat ride on the lake is gorgeous, with some fresh snow the night before there was just enough on the mountains to keep my happy.

Getting closer to St Wolfgang you can see the 11m lantern on the water which signals you have arrived in another festive wonderland.

Getting off the boat, you find the town is one big Christmas market ready to explore.

Of course we stopped first for Gluhwein before exploring the delightful town. Full of market stalls, boutique stores and cafes, it was a very pleasant way to spend the afternoon and while away a few hours.

Making our way down to the water for a late lunch, the sun was dipping behind the mountains, the temperature dropped and so we cozied up for one more wine to toast our day before leaving this festive storybook town.

Taking the boat back to St Gilgen and saying goodbye to this pretty little town we decided this was the perfect way to spend our last day in Austria and to end our winter escape.

Hope you enjoyed escaping along with me, thanks for reading!
